10 Books Challenge: Books I Read/Listened to in 2018

I started My Peak Challenge on February 5th. On that date I started working on myself physically (more on my experience here) Another part of MPC is to do a non-physical challenge. I decided to challenge myself to read/listen to at least 10 books in 2018. I wasn’t sure with my busy mom life if that was going to be possible. However, I hit my goal! I haven’t read one book in seven years let alone ten! Needless, say I feel very accomplished.

So what books did I read or listen to?

Here’s the list…

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis– Read

I wrote a whole blog post reviewing this book. You can check it out here.

This book has gotten rave reviews and Rachel Hollis has many followers. It was a great book and hit me between the eyes several times. Rachel Hollis is a huge motivator and encourager. So if you want a ‘Go Getter’ to follow. She’s your girl! Look for her new follow up book, ‘Girl, Stop Apologizing’ to be available anywhere books are sold in 2019.

Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado– Listened

I wrote a whole blog post on this book as well. You can check it out here.

I knew I needed to read this book due to suffering from anxiety at times in my life. I mean have you read my ‘Travel Anxiety‘ post? This book is wonderful for anyone who finds themselves nervous and anxious on the regular.

Business Boutique by Christy Wright– Read

This is a great handbook for anyone who wants to be an entrepreneur. It is mainly geared towards women. Christy Wright is a great motivator just like Rachel Hollis. She has owned her share of businesses and she wants you to get out there and succeed at yours. She also hosts a Business Boutique weekend event with amazing speakers every November!

A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon– Read

My husband bought this in hardcover for me last Christmas. I started it last Christmas (2017), it took me until June (2018) to complete it. The push was because we were going to be visiting Ocracoke in the Outer Banks and part of this book takes place on Ocracoke. This is the 6th book in the Outlander series. This book is part of the Season 5 and 6 renewal of the Outlander tv series. It is the continuation of Jamie and Claire Fraser and family as they experience the start of the Revolutionary War in North Carolina.

Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon– Listened

Yep, there are two Outlander books on this list. It’s a sickness. I have a fever and I’m ok with it. This is the seventh book in the Outlander series. This one also follows Jamie and Claire Fraser and family as they continue to experience the Revolutionary War in North Carolina.

Strong Mothers Strong Sons– Read

I recommend this to any boy moms however there is a Strong Fathers Strong Daughters version. If you want a manual for bringing up boys, this is it! It is great for all stages of motherhood. I’m not gonna lie though, I had to stop about 1/4 of the way through it when I had my youngest son. I should have asked for the audio version (this was a Christmas gift). There are some portions that may not apply to your stage but it definitely will help in the years to come!

Shepherding a Child’s Heart- Read

This was given to my husband and I when our youngest was dedicated at church. It has a great advice on how to bring up your child. As the title states this book helps guide you in how to bring up your child in a godly way.

Capital Gaines by Chip Gaines– Listened

Oh Chip. He certainly got himself in many the predicament! The stories he tells about the situations and decisions he had made in the past makes me feel a lot better about ours!

The Making of Outlander by Tara Bennett– Listened

Ok, I’m obsessed! Alright, there I said it. Happy now? Anyway, this is a great behind the scenes look at Season 1 and 2.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert– Listened

This had a lot of great points for creatives. It’s a great pep talk in the beginning if you are feeling fearful in your creativity. It definitely helped me get out of my shell.

As you can see it’s a pretty broad range of genres. I love different types of books and for years I would just read nonfiction because it was easier to digest. However, I’ve gotten the bug to read fiction again. I love that you can escape to another land, world, etc. That’s why I love Outlander. It’s historical, has some love thrown in and some drama. Plus it takes place mainly in Scotland and North Carolina!

I am so happy and thrilled that I was able to achieve my goal for reading this year! I am actually in the middle of book #11. So we shall see if I complete it. If I do. I will update this post! Update at press time- I have 12 more hours to listen…

It has been a great year!

Let me know if you check out and of these books! I’d love to hear what you think!

Why I’m switching planners and going mini, horizontal and Happy

Hey there! I’m so glad you stopped by my blog!

I’m a wife to a realtor and a momma to 2 energetic boys, living in a bi-level home (some people call it a split level) and fixing it up to suit us. I love a good DIY and being creative. I am passionate about history and  visiting historical places like it’s my job- particularly Colonial time period. I love finding antiques/vintage and rustic items to add to my home decor, vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and fantasizing about trips to Scotland. Read more

On this blog I share a lot of those things and more, so comment, share, subscribe and come along for the ride!
