Phew! What a weekend! After many nights and weekends working and roofing, I got my husband back. That means I was no longer acting as a single mom to the crazy sons of ours. The one thing I asked for Mother’s Day, that I thought the boys could help him with, was getting my garden started. Namely, constructing my raised beds.
I have had an idea of doing one part veggie garden and one part English garden. I love the secluded, secret garden feel of an English Garden. The neatly, unkempt look of them. The flowers mixed with vegetables. I have learned a lot about the value of having flowers for the bees to help pollinate a vegetable garden and I’m all for it.
My boys got me two Clematises and a Gerbera Daisy, my favorite flower. Now I definitely plan on making a DIY arbor and train them to climb the arbor.
Real life. Rainy Mother’s Day…
While he was doing that, I painted the front door a charcoal grey color. We used exterior Pittsburgh Paint in the color, Improbable. I love it. I got the inspiration while on my travels when I saw a charcoal colored front door with a forsythia wreath. It made the wreath pop.
While the first coat was drying, I decided to use the grinder tool and remove the old, rusty, peeling paint from the laundry line posts. That was an experience. I’m not afraid of a new DIY and getting dirty on a job.
Hubby took the boys to run some errands and go see his mom. While they did that I wrapped up my painting. I decided to scrub our car mats. If you don’t have rubber mats for your vehicle, do yourself a favor and get some. We have the brand WeatherTech floor liners and they are wonderful. They are a bit of an investment but trust me, you will be so thankful. They are precision cut for your specific vehicle. They fit like a glove. I scrub them every Spring around May. I wait until the snow has stopped and it isn’t so wet and rainy. We had been to the cabin last weekend and it was a bit muddy so I’m glad I waited. While they were drying, I did some much needed weeding.
I got cleaned up and decided to tackle some signs I had been in the process of making. It was time for the lettering. Check out my blog post where I share how I DIY my signs. I saw this fun one for the bathroom on Pinterest and decided to make it.
I also wanted to make this one for my garden that I had also seen on Pinterest. An ode to my love of Outlander.
I also saw a sign at Michael’s that said ‘Say Grace’. I decided to make it on my own for our dining area.
Well, I’m a tired Momma now. But it was nice to have the house to myself and have some quiet.
How was your Mother’s Day weekend?
