That’s What She Shed
For a few years now, I’ve been wanting a she shed. I felt that it would be a great addition to my garden. I was constantly pinning ideas on Pinterest. There were a few times we inquired about sheds that people were offering for FREE on FB marketplace. Nothing worked out because of the condition or the size of them. I was interested in the carriage style sheds, where the double door is in the middle with a window on either side. Last summer, a coworker of my husband’s was upgrading his shed. He offered it to us for free and we decided to take it and pay for the transporting of it to our house. That was really neat process to watch. I had in my mind that a flat bed was going to drive into our yard and have it delivered that way, but that was not the case. There’s a such thing as a shed mover and it seemed like there was nothing to it!
The Process
My husband started by measuring out the footprint of that the shed would take up and dug out the sod a few inches before laying a 3 inch bed of stones. Then he placed on pavers in which the shed would sit on.
Throughout the summer, my husband worked hard to cut out the bad T1-11 (in which we got from a local discount contractor supply business) and replaced it with new. He recapped around the corners and replaced the trim on the door. We got new hardware as well. He painted it to match the chicken coop (Behr- Almond Cream) using our paint sprayer.
We still need to replace the windows but so far it’s looking so good and I wanted to share! It’s shaping up to look like a nice modern farmhouse shed. Enjoy this ‘reel’ I shared on Instagram…
In the End
After we got the shed situated, I decided I didn’t really need this big shed to myself. We really needed a place to make/process and build all our DIY projects. When we bought our house, one of the reasons we did was because we wanted a garage. Well, since we became DIYers (which really started when we bought the house) we started taking up the garage with our projects which made it difficult to park a vehicle in there. So I made the executive decision to call this shed our ‘workshop’. We have a utility shed (housing the riding mower, our snow blower, the shovels and rakes, etc. That I call the actual shed.
I had been longing for a greenhouse ever since I started my garden and I asked my ever loving husband if he would build me a lean to shed on the one side of the now minted shed…
Greenhouse Plans
Since it took me so long to post this… we also constructed a lean to style greenhouse attached to the left side of the shed facing my garden. We used old windows and an old door. I will share that in a coming post…
