Hey friends and happy weekend!
I wanted to recap:
- some DIYs that happened around here
- a beauty line I’m loving for the frugal but organic minded people out there
- recap some of the things I am chatting about on Instagram this week.
Chandelier redo to save $$$
When we moved in, I wasn’t wild about the chandelier hanging in our foyer. It didn’t really go with the finishes that I like to decorate to or that I’m drawn to. Let’s face it, what I really want is one of those beaded chandeliers that are all the rage on Instagram and in the farmhouse style. Yet for me, it calls out that 1920s/victorian vibe that I love hints of.
I love the hammered oil rubbed bronze spray paint and have used it many times in the past. I decided to go for that finish. I could not remove or change the globes so I will have to live with them for now. I think it looks ok though.
Purge, Purge, Purge
I have been continuing the whole purging thing. My wedding bouquet has been staring me in the face in the office area. I have been wanting to get it out of the square acrylic dome it’s been in for almost thirteen years but I dreaded it because for some reason I felt bad about taking it out since, you know the whole ‘you spent a lot of money on it’. Well I sucked it up and took the plunge! I bought a shadowbox from Hobby Lobby, came home and got to it. Turns out I had to reconstruct the whole thing! I feel so much better that I did it though. Now it’s hung up in our bedroom and I can look at the pretty colors everyday.
Tickets, Tickets please!
I saved a bunch of our tickets over the years thinking I would scrapbook. I never did. However, I had a couple ticket ideas saved on Pinterest and I decided to deal with these since I was purging through the house. I repainted a frame my husband had in his keepsake bin. I tried to put the tickets in chronological order. I think it turned out great! It is now hanging in our hallway so we can see all the things we did and the places we went and remember the good times!
A Valentines Box Idea
You all, I think I am more excited about this than the kid! My son needed to make a Valentines Box for next week. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to make, so we searched Pinterest and came across a camper idea. I LOVED it! My parents just got a travel trailer and my son’s school year theme is ‘Happy Camper’! Perfect! I just sketched out on cardboard the sides. I used paperboard for the middle stapled the ends together and hot glued it to the sides. I cut out a door and sketched out a window and cut out the awning, I used tires from a trucks that my youngest pulled them off of. Then he got to work painting. I printed off the Penn State logo and glued it to a toothpick. We are tailgating!
And last but not least, beauty products I’m loving
My friend told me about The Ordinary line a month ago. I waited until I ran out of some products. I found out that Ulta sells them, so I didn’t have to order them on their website. I was looking to start serums because I hear great things about using serums. I wanted to start targeting anti-aging and even out my skin tone. The Ordinary is under the Deciem company of lines and products. Basically the idea of the products is that it has the only main ingredient you need and none of the fillers that other companies use.
“All DECIEM products, across all brands including The Ordinary, are free of parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, animal oils, coal tar dyes, formaldehyde, mercury, oxybenzone.”
– direct quote from Deciem’s The Ordinary site
They are so affordable. At first when you go to the website, it is a bit confusing as to what to use because there isn’t really any categories for what you want to address with your skin. I decided to send a regime inquiry to the contact us section. They were so helpful and gave me a regime with direct links to the products to address my skin concerns. I am very happy with them and on top of that a friend asked me if I was on vacation because I look tan. Woohoo! I must be doing something right.
I apply in this order:
- Buffet (peptides)
- Granactive Retinoid (a gentler retinol)
- Caffeine Solution to my under eye and brow bone
- Organic Cold-pressed Rose Hip Seed oil (a great night time moisturizer)
So there you have it my weekly recap! What are you loving or into this week? Let me know!
Have a great week!
