Texas Sheet Cake

This cake reminds me of my childhood- ha! My mom use to make this for many picnics while I was growing up. I decided to make this for the Labor Day cookout a my mom and dad’s.

This cake is chocolate decadence! It is almost like a brownie but 10x better! It is a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting/icing. However, you could easily make the frosting by adding peanut butter- I big, puffy, heart love PB!

The recipe

Cake~

2 cups flour

2 cups white sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 sour cream- yep sour cream!

2 eggs

1 cup butter

1 cup water

5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Icing~

6 tablespoons milk

5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup butter

4 cups confectioner’s sugar/10x sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup of nuts, if preferred.

Directions:

1.Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour or spray with baking spray a 10×15 inch pan. I used my Pampered Chef stone pan

2. Combine flour, sugar, baking soda and salt. Mix in sour cream and eggs. Melt butter in saucepan and add water and 5 tablespoons of cocoa. Bring it to a boil, remove and allow to cool slightly. Stir cocoa mixture into the previous mixture and mix until well blended.

3. Pour into pan and bake for about 20 minutes. It may take longer depending on your oven. Insert a toothpick in the center and bake until it comes out clean.

4. Now, prepare the icing. In a saucepan combine milk, 5 tablespoons cocoa and 1/2 cup butter. Bring that to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in confectioner’s sugar and vanilla. Add nuts if you prefer. Mix until blended. Pour frosting over warm cake.

If you make this recipe, let me know what you think!

Please feel free to share this recipe and post…

Enjoy!

Anxious for Nothing

Hey there! I’m so glad you stopped by my blog!

I’m a wife to a realtor and a momma to 2 energetic boys, living in a bi-level home (some people call it a split level) and fixing it up to suit us. I love a good DIY and being creative. I am passionate about history and  visiting historical places like it’s my job- particularly Colonial time period. I love finding antiques/vintage and rustic items to add to my home decor, vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and fantasizing about trips to Scotland. Read more

On this blog I share a lot of those things and more, so comment, share, subscribe and come along for the ride!
