I have to say this 2018 was one of my/our best years yet. We have done so much and went so many places! I know, I know, it’s almost the third week in 2019 but, I decided to do a review on the blog, if anything just have a written record for myself and my family.
Around January, I had been coming off the Christmas whirlwind and feeling pretty blah about myself. I had been wanting to start a fitness program and get my nutrition under control. Enter, My Peak Challenge. I won’t go into much detail here but you can read the whole story here. In the colder months in which I started out in, I worked out at home in my basement. I had bought myself a set of dumbbells during the January fitness sales. By Spring, I was running on the trails on my active recovery days. By July, I was buying myself a barbell and weights. By August, I lost 15 lbs. It became a habit and I wanted to work out everyday. It helps my mind and I can’t get enough!
By Memorial Day I wanted to go somewhere on a day trip with the boys and my husband. I suggested Gettysburg because I wanted to do something historical and I thought that would be a great place to take them. It was a nice day away. However that is when I realized, with boys you always need to be prepared!
This year was the year to go to the Outer Banks. The weekend after school let out for the summer we headed down South to North Carolina. It was a wonderful time away and a week is never enough! We went to the Southern most part of the Outer Banks, Ocracoke. You can read about that here. For the Outlander fans, here is my Outlander version of the trip.
If you are interested in learning more about the Outer Banks, check out my Q & A
Before I went to the Outer Banks, I looked to see if there would be any races going on while we were there. I thought it would be more fun to do a race at the beach. They happened to be doing a race series called Lighthouse 5K, so I signed up. This marked my first 5K of the year.
In July, we went on our first get away together since our honeymoon in 2006 (yep 12 years ago! We were in the process of paying off debt for 6 years). We went to Williamsburg for a long weekend with close friends of ours. Williamsburg is quickly becoming my Disney World. I love history and I just feel like I am immersed in it when I am there. I love walking the quiet streets of Williamsburg at night after a dinner in Merchant’s Square. This time, we were able to see the real site of Jamestown. Sadly, it was raining and I couldn’t see the archaeological digs in progress. It was a great time away, however way to short.
That following Friday, Joe had ankle surgery. So you could say that trip was our last hurrah before a few weeks to a few months of recuperating set in. He was pretty much fully recovered by September. Finally started physical therapy there after. Luckily, I got out of lawn moving duties. I would have but it was brutal as a teenager pushing a mower. I’m sure it would have just as much as full blown adult. I did however weed whack. Sure, I could have used the riding mower but I don’t trust myself to drive one of those things!
I ran my second 5K the last weekend of August. I felt much accomplished with that. I almost ran my third but I was planning a beach get away with my mom. Then, Hurricane Florence decided to hit and wrecked our plans. Pun intended! Incidentally, it rained here and I just didn’t think it would be fun to run in the rain at this point. So, I decided to forgo my third 5K. I decided to make it my goal to do so in 2019.
It was a blessing in disguise that since Joe was recuperating from surgery, he could get his real estate business moving in the right direction. He was busy from August through November. He had at least one settlement per month! So proud of him!
In September, I celebrated my 37th birthday. I wrote a post about what I would tell my younger self. You can read it here. In October, we celebrated our oldest’s 7th birthday. Hard to believe!
This year was my best yet. We did so much and accomplished so much! I have high hopes for 2019 and one including buying our next house! I have big plans for fitness and will be joining My Peak Challenge again in February 2019. We have some fun travel plans brewing.
Did you have a great 2018? What are your plans for 2019?
Have a great weekend!
