Tips for the Beginner Planner

This past weekend a friend of mine was asking me for recommendations for starting to get into the planning world. If you follow me on Instagram you saw that I posted my 2018 Recollections (from Michael’s) planner and the two sticker books that I purchased as well. I am loving getting back into a bigger planner. It has been so helpful since my oldest is now in school and there are things I need to remember sometimes weekly for him. Daily it seems I have a ‘remember this’ or ‘do this’ list. To get more into my planner and use it more I started using stickers this time around. It makes it more fun  and colorful and gives you something to look at.

I would recommend figuring out what size you want. I like the bigger planner because I can fit more on a page. I use my google cal app on my phone when I am out and about or at an appointment. Then I ‘sync’ the appointments into my planner once I am home or doing my planning. I almost always consult my google cal first because that is almost definitely true. It it’s not in my google cal it’s not happening I tell my husband!

You can purchase a Recollections planner or any planner at Michael’s with a coupon. They also run great sales!

I like the Recollections planner because it is very close to an Erin Condren but half if not 1/4 of the price. It has two pockets in the back and a poly pocket that seals. I like to keep my coupons for stores and what not in there. I also carry some stickers with me. The planner comes with some starter stickers but I prefer the MAMBI stickers that Michael’s sells. There are also lots of sticker shops on Etsy. There are also lots of ‘Plan with Me’, ‘How I Plan’ or ‘Planner Haul’ videos on YouTube that are helpful. All I did was buy a planner that worked for me and bought two sticker books that I thought I would use. I wanted to be able to plan weekly and decorate for holidays and seasons.

Whatever you do, don’t go crazy! Start out slow. Figure out what works for you. Planning is not a one size fits all thing. There are so many ideas and easy you can plan.

The YouTube Microscope Beauty is a great no nonsense channel to help you with planner ideas and navigate the planner world.

I would love to add a Dashboard which is an insert that you can insert into the current week. I’d like to try to make my own or buy a blank one and stick my goals on it- that way I can see it everyday. I have them listed in my planner but I want them to be visible everyday. Do you want me to do a post on my 2018 goals? I’d be happy to share them.

Do you have any questions for me about planners? Leave them in the comments section below!

Thanks for checking out my blog!

Favorites. Part II

Hey there! I’m so glad you stopped by my blog!

I’m a wife to a realtor and a momma to 2 energetic boys, living in a bi-level home (some people call it a split level) and fixing it up to suit us. I love a good DIY and being creative. I am passionate about history and  visiting historical places like it’s my job- particularly Colonial time period. I love finding antiques/vintage and rustic items to add to my home decor, vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and fantasizing about trips to Scotland. Read more

On this blog I share a lot of those things and more, so comment, share, subscribe and come along for the ride!
