Last year, we got into whisky/whiskey. I was perusing Pinterest and came across a recipe for Whiskey Balls. You use whiskey and cocoa just to name a few ingredients. Right up my alley!
They are pretty quick to make as long as you do it right. I have experimented with two different ingredients- vanilla wafers and graham crackers. After making them a couple of times, I prefer graham crackers. You can also use shortbread- however I have not used that yet. I think vanilla wafers soak up too much whiskey and you need the crackers to keep the other ingredients together.
Sometimes it may be too dry, depending on what you use. Try adding a tad bit of water, that can open up the whiskey but you want to be very careful not too add to much. It will be a mess and you will need to add more wafers or graham crackers. Next time, I’m doing graham crackers and not adding any water. Learn from my fail!
Ok let’s get into the recipe!
Ingredients
1 cup crushed vanilla wafers/graham crackers or shortbread (whichever you choose)
1 cup confectioners sugar/powdered sugar/10x sugar
1 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts (optional, I do not like walnuts so I omit them)
2 Tbsp cocoa
2 Tbsp honey
1/4 cup whiskey/rum/or bourbon
Directions
- Begin by crushing the wafers or graham crackers. If you have a food processor, great! It goes faster. If not, put them in a gallon zip lock bag and take out all your aggression on it with a wooden kitchen tool or your fist!
- mix ingredients (except powdered sugar) until well incorporated and then cover and chill for 1 hour.
- put powdered sugar in a bowl.
- Form into balls and coat/roll in powdered sugar.
- Store in an air tight container with wax paper. I like to put them in a tin.
- Keep in the freezer or refrigerator.
These typically make 18 balls.
See easy, right? Enjoy!
