Why I’m switching planners and going mini, horizontal and Happy

If you are thinking about the New Year, you are probably thinking about what planner you are going to use to get organized, goal set and smash your goals!

I have been using a planner since middle school and I have been through my share of them. There was the Plum Paper Planner I purchased on Etsy, the Blue Sky Planner from Target. I don’t consider myself planner obsessed like I see some people on Instagram and YouTube. I use a planner for just simply planning and keeping my mind straight. After having two boys, I swear they took a bunch of brain cells with them when they came into the world.

In the last year, I noticed that I haven’t been using a planner like I would like to. I didn’t open it for days and that was not a good thing. I was forgetting things like, the fact that my oldest had an early dismissal. Yep, Mom Fail of the Year- right there. Something had to change. I needed a planner that I loved opening. I needed a planner that was functional and easy to take with me in my purse.  Enter, the mini Happy Planner.

A good friend of mine had been raving about hers and until I took a look at hers, I didn’t realize how great it was! It was just what I needed. I needed something that was customizable. I wanted to include my work out log and my weekly calendar together in one planner. That just wasn’t going to happen in my current situation.

I was using a spiral bound Recollections planner from Michael’s. It was about the size of an Erin Condren planner but half the price. Side note, it’s funny hearing my family’s name (Condran) very often on social media because it is not a common name at all. It is spelled a bit different, but sounds the same. Anyway, don’t get me wrong, they are GORGEOUS! I probably would have stayed with them if I didn’t need something more customizable and smaller.

The mini Happy Planner is just what I needed. I found that I wasn’t filling up the three section vertical planner. It was just a waste of a planner and was too big for me to take in my purse.

The only con to the mini Happy Planner is that they don’t make very many inserts. Let me rephrase that. Not many inserts are available locally to me. You can get them online but I’d rather not pay so much for shipping. I have also been hunting gold metal discs to expand my mini. They are hard to find on sale. You know me, I like a deal! What I can do as far as inserts is use a specialty hole puncher and insert- monthly goal sheets, event info, etc. It works out perfectly that way.

I decided I would try it for a year and see how it goes. It wouldn’t hurt to try. That’s my motto, you never know until you try. Unless it would hurt you, then don’t try it, ha.

Presenting my 2019 mini Happy Planner….

My friend who introduced me to the Happy Planner had extra undated monthly spreads and gave me some! Yay! I switched over immediately instead of waiting for the New Year. I have to say I am loving it and finding I use it more.

So here’s to a New Year and a new planner!

What will you be using in the new year? Tell me in the comments!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

PS…here’s a glimpse of how I am keeping my planner markers and washi together for now

Purging & Downsizing for the New Year…

Hey there! I’m so glad you stopped by my blog!

I’m a wife to a realtor and a momma to 2 energetic boys, living in a bi-level home (some people call it a split level) and fixing it up to suit us. I love a good DIY and being creative. I am passionate about history and  visiting historical places like it’s my job- particularly Colonial time period. I love finding antiques/vintage and rustic items to add to my home decor, vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and fantasizing about trips to Scotland. Read more

On this blog I share a lot of those things and more, so comment, share, subscribe and come along for the ride!
