Wow! It’s been a long time! A lot has happened since I last wrote in Florida. I was involved with planning my brother’s wedding and being Matron of Honor and thought I’d throw in classes in order to become a realtor 🥴
Anyway I am now on the other side of all that and now onto a review for a recently read book….
The Lost Melody
by Joanna Davidson Politano
*I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own*
When I read the synopsis of this book, I thought it would be a great Fall read leading up to the spooky season. However, It is sprinkled with an inspirational message…
“When concert pianist Vivienne Mourdant’s father dies, he leaves to her the care of an adult ward she knew nothing about. The woman is supposedly a patient at Hurstwell Asylum. The woman’s portrait is shockingly familiar to Vivienne, so when the asylum claims she was never a patient there, Vivienne is compelled to discover what happened to the figure she remembers from childhood dreams”
And with that, you are left wondering as you read, is it a real person or now a ghost? This is a haunting tale of what patients in asylums might have had to deal with. This part intrigued me. This is the first book of Joanna’s I have read. It won’t be the last. She did such a good job at painting a picture of the asylum that you felt like you were there walking through all the corridors and passageways. There were times that I felt like I was enduring exactly what Vivienne was dealing with. I often caught myself wondering, ok how is she going to get out of this one. I read a few chapters late at night (around midnight) and I wasn’t sure I could go to sleep, haha.
I know Vivienne (if she were a real person) would have felt suffocated, utterly alone with no one to turn to. She ended up turning to God and trying to have faith and hope against all odds. It paints a perfect picture of how even though we may feel alone in life, we always have God to turn to.
I highly recommend this book, especially as a good Fall/Winter read! If you are an avid pianist or musician, I think you will love the many references to musical arrangements and how music was woven throughout this story.
Check out Amazon, Kindle, Hoopla, Overdrive app or your local library to read this great book!
